In a recent interview on Al Jazeera, Humanitarian Forum President Dr Hany El Banna gives a frank discussion concerning the perceptions of charity work and volunteering in Islamic countries. Examining attitudes to the voluntary sector in both Western and Islamic societies, Dr El Banna suggests how taking the voluntary sector from an individual choice to an institution involving society as a whole can create possibilities for a leap in performance from charitable organisations, and a marked improvement in society as a whole.
