Annual Review 2011

12 December 2011

The Humanitarian Forum Annual Review 2011 has just come off the press and is ready for download, exploring the milestones, the challenges and the outcomes of a year marked by a dramatic change in the humanitarian landscape.

From the critical famine in the Horn of Africa to the outbreak of the Arab Spring and the awakening of the civil society in countries like Syria, Yemen and Egypt, the humanitarian community was faced with enormous challenges this year.

In view of the growing need for cooperation between INGOs and local civil society, the Humanitarian Forum focused its work in humanitarian coordination in Somalia and Libya, holding a series of meetings in Nairobi and Mogadishu, as well as face-to-face meetings in Cairo to share information and cooperation efforts.

On the other hand, The Humanitarian Forum carried out community empowerment programmes in Yemen, Lybia and Somalia, through coordination meetings and workshops focused on building networks and empowering local emerging organizations. In Libya, 1.100 people took part in the workshops whereas 40 different organizations attended workshops in Yemen, partnering for the first time to pool resources.

In Indonesia, the local Humanitarian Forum held training sessions on disaster preparedness techniques, as well as interfaith issues in humanitarian work and accountability in humanitarian aid.

"2011 has been a challenging yet fulfilling year; it was the beginning of a newly paved humanitarian highway", says on the report Hany El-Banna, The Humanitarian Forum's president.
