Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: The Humanitarian Forum recieves high level praise and recognition

The Humanitarian Forum trustee, Adam Leach recently accompanied director James Shaw-Hamilton on a high-profile trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The visit has brought about new possibilities for humanitarian partnerships across faith and cultural boundaries. Here Adam Leach updates us of what The Forum has achieved.
The Humanitarian Forum has received high level recognition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and expression of strong interest and support from several influential people and institutions.
HRH Prince Turki al Faisal encouraged The Humanitarian Forum to support a vision for collective approaches to relief that bring together organisations from different faiths. His Royal Highness offered help from the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies.
Meeting with HRH Prince Waleed Bin Talal and the Kingdom Foundation, The Humanitarian Forum was urged to continue to focus on helping local organisations to increase capacity, and on delivering practical results.
The Humanitarian Forum has had successes on a number of levels. These include access at all levels and especially locally, being invited into complex situations, tackling sensitive and vital issues in practical ways and avoiding unhelpful controversy. The Forum does not substitute for work of international or local organisations but, instead, helps to build capacity and links that deliver more and better actions in response to essential humanitarian needs.
In a world that is dominated by preoccupation with peace through security and control, the real enemy is suspicion. But peace and security are as much matter of belief and culture. Concern for humanity and humanitarian responsibility delivered through voluntary effort might offer better, more enduring prospects for peace.
