Inter-ethnic clashes in Central Asia

16 June 2010

In recent days, violence has erupted in parts of southern Kyrgyzstan. The Humanitarian Forum's partners the ICRC and UNOCHA http://www.unocha.org/ have been working to tackle the effects of these inter-ethnic clashes. There is a critical need for food, healthcare, water, shelter and protection to internally displaced people.

Central Asia is one of the crucial areas in the globe where ethnicity, religion and history conspire to cause tension at there same time as there are real humanitarian and development challenges.

As The Humanitarian Forum has said before, it is saddening that our beliefs and culture, which have the potential to bring mercy, justice and peace to the world, are so often used as a reason for divisions, disharmony and hatred. We continue to hope that, in the new decade, we will be able to move forward on a new path of fellowship and shared understanding.

The Humanitarian Forum is building trust between humanitarian communities, and helping to improve the work they do, in different parts of the world. Please look at www.humanitarianforum.org for more information.
