Art as a humanitarian tool

1 September 2010

Art builds communications between nations and generations through the exchange of views, cultures and knowledge. It has an important role in breaking down barriers, overcoming obstacles and sowing the seeds of peace.

The IFAA (Iraqi Fine Artists Association in Britain) is an independent non-profit Association and “Fulfill my dream”, one of their major events, is coming up. 1000 artworks created by Iraqi children will be displayed in one exhibition to give the exhibition visitors a glimpse into children’s vision of a beautiful, secure and peaceful Iraq.  Sometimes, children can offer a remarkable insight into a world ruled by adults and through art, they can express themselves freely.

The main objectives of this event that reunites art and children will be:

1. To build bridges between Iraqi children at home and abroad, and bring them together through fine arts.
2. To give children the opportunity to express their dreams and aspirations with regards to their country.
3. To discover and encourage the artistic talents of Iraqi children and give them the confidence to participate and express their opinions.
4. To provide an opportunity for Iraqi children at home to participate in international events.
5. To deliver the message of Iraqi children through the language of art to people who can help in achieving their dreams.

The Humanitarian Forum wholeheartedly agrees that any avenue which brings different  people together on common ground is worth exploring and supports IFAA’s belief that fine art has an important and active role in promoting human values.

You could be part of this event, not just by visiting, but making it happen.
