2nd Annual Workshop on Information Sharing for Better Action
Overview

Dr. Hany will be attending a workshop created by The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), in cooperation with the Kuwaiti International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) and Direct AID on the 12th and 13th September in Kuwait City.
After the first workshop, a Steering
Group was formed, and three follow up meetings were held in Dubai (4 April,
2010), Amman (6 June, 2010) and Kuwait (18 October, 2010) to monitor the
progress in the implementation of the recommendations.
The Steering Group has considered the recommendations emanating from the Oman Workshop
and concluded that implementation of the first Group of recommendations should be
considered as priority actions. To this end a briefing on the establishment of
a regional information sharing mechanism for the Latin America Region was
provided to the Steering Group at the Kuwait meeting. On the basis of
discussions by the Steering Group following that meeting it was proposed that
the second Annual Workshop should focus specifically on the options for
development of an information sharing platform for the Arabic-speaking region.
In view of the worsening situation in the Horn of Africa and based on
discussions with partners and co-organizers, it was felt that this workshop round
should devote an entire day towards raising awareness about the CAP and
discussing ways of cooperation.
The food crisis in the Horn of Africa is affecting 12.4 million people. Arab and Muslim organizations are amongst the strongest players in the field with better access especially to southern and central Somalia. However, not much is known about the commitments and plans of those organizations, a situation where a discussion about information sharing can go a long way in strengthening the relationship between the various stakeholders in the process.
