Appeal Yemen
Since the beginning of the New Year, the Middle East including Yemen has witnessed a huge tide of political turmoil and unrest.
People who were affected the most were the local citizens; most of them sustain their living under low income with continuous struggles in day to day life. The unrest caused many people to be displaced and others to be listed under the rising death toll. The security issues do not seem to ease the situation, as it complicates the matter of assessing the actual aid the citizens need even further.
The Humanitarian Forum and the UN OCHA liaised together to bring forward an emergency response workshop, which gathered various organisations together within Yemen. The aim of the workshop was to unite all these organisations and redirect their goals to reduce the suffering of the raising 60,847 IDPs in the South, especially in Aden, Lahj & Abyaan. The areas focused on in both workshops were:
- IDPs (Facilitated by WED and UNHCR)
- Health Care (facilitated by Al Nebras)
- Protection (Facilitated by UNHCR)
Beside the unrest in the country, the food and fuel prices are soaring and those less fortunate are being hit the most. According to IRIN, the price of bread has risen by 50% and there is a concern that Yemen’s currency might collapse, which will push another 15% of the Yemenis habitants under the poverty line. Basic necessities are under-sourced and the IDPs are suffering greatly. Displaced communities and families are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. Items such as food, water, shelter, protection and healthcare are vital for survival.
As a byproduct of the workshops carried out in Yemen, an emergency intervention was suggested by the participant to tackle this growing issue. As a result, The Humanitarian Forum launched the ‘Ramadan Appeal’ campaign, to alleviate the suffering of the affected civilians in this blessed month. Along with other organizations, The Humanitarian Forum committed to deliver emergency packages to families in need, which would sustain them for a month. The packages will contain both food and non food items: sugar, rice, oil, flour, tea, water, infant milk, blankets, sheets, tents, cooking utensils, latrines and first aid kits. Please note that a months’ supply of essential items costs a mere $85. Hraelp us to ease the burden on the IDPs scattered across Yemen. Be their helping hand and donate here.
