APT Social Service Society is a smallnon-profit/charity organization established mainly to bring about social andqualitative changes in the lives of the under-privileged and desperately poorpeople of Andhra Pradesh, India.
APT Social Service Society works in thefollowing fields:
Education
APTSocial Service Society believes that poverty can be eradicated through education.We are providing free education to street children, child labourers and orphans:
- Rehabilitation of 30 street children/beggars/child labourers;
- Re-enrolled 312 dropout children in Government schools;
- Giving educational support to disabled children by providing books, uniforms and school bags and paying exam fees;
- Historical Education through picnic lessons;
- Providing educational support to HIV/AIDS orphans;
- Non-formal education centres for child labourers, street children & children of sexual workers (80 children in our education centre);
- Enrolled 32 disabled children in Government schools;
- Adult Evening Literacy courses for women.
The Forum for Child Rights estimates thatan average of 23 children arrives at the Vijayawada railway station and 18children arrive at the Guntur railway station every day. These children run away from their ownvillages. The children, aged between 5 to 16 years of age, are mostlyscavengers or beg for food. Some are able to find work, but are treated harshlyand have no facility for receiving medication, regular food or security.
VocationalTraining skills and Women Empowerment
We help eradicate poverty throughVocational Training. We have set up a tailoring and embroidery centre for sexworkers, HIV/AIDS affected women, widows & poor young girls (80 women arelearning at Sattenapalli).
Health
- Health camps for poor women and children at 23 villages;
- Awareness programme on HIV/AIDS & TB and ARV drug usage for HIV/AIDS affected people;
- Awareness on HIV/AIDS through street plays in the schools & colleges.
Nutrition
APT Social Service Society is providingnutrition to 10 orphaned children, 24 pregnant women and 30 infants and aweekly meal for 10 OAP's.
Water& Environment
There was just one well with drinking waterin the area for poor people and women had to come a long way to procuredrinking water. APT Social Service Society bore two more wells. We also heldawareness raising workshops with the young boys from the four villages on howto keep the drains and roads clean.
We prepared nursery plants fordistribution to the children in our education centres, so they could plantthem in their gardens and raised environmental awareness on pollution.
Saving& thrift
- 100 Self help women Groups (saving & thrift);
- Women support centre for guidance& suggestions.
FuturePlans
- To establish an orphanage for 40 children;
- To establish a nursing home for 20 OAP's;
- To establish different vocational skills centres for street children & child labourers
- To establish a Primary School with free Education
