Humanitarian Forum Indonesia held a Contingency Planning Workshop for its member organisations. The simulation aimed to enhance the capacity of HFI's members in handling emergency situations such as volcano eruptions.

Indonesia has 22 active volcanoes which present a threat to the human lives and livelihoods around them. Therefore, swift action is required and early preparation can help avoid massive losses of lives and livelihoods.

The Contingency Planning Simulation was attended by 18 participants from all of Humanitarian Forum Indonesia's member organisations, such as YTBI, KARINA, MDMC and also from Kerlips. This activity continued with a field simulation on Papandayan, one of the most active volcanoes in West Java.

HFI plans to hold a few more simulations in the next month and involve the stakeholders in the region. This Contingency Planning Workshop series will aid to prepare the plan action on evacuation and on handling the situation of refuges during emergencies such as when Papandayan releases its hot clouds.

Hopefully, this coordination and simulation could reduce the unexpected problems arising when Papandayan release its material from inside.
