East Africa Youth for Peace and Human Rights (EAYOPEH)

Introduction:

East Africa Youth for Peace and Human Rights (EAYOPEH) is a local nongovernmental non-political non-profit and nonpartisan youth organization operating in South and Central Somalia. It was established in January 2011 by a group of young professionals and activists from different institutions in Mogadishu. The goal established by the organization was to create an atmosphere conducive to peace through creating culture of dialogue, respect of human rights, poverty alleviation, and disarmament programs, improving IDP welfare, fostering humanitarian relief, youth and women empowerment and fight against HIV/AIDS.

Programmes:

East Africa Youth for Peace and Human Rights (EAYOPEH) conducts a few highly focused programmes aimed at engaging society in East Africa specially Somalia in the addressing the need for peace, human rights, women & youth empowerment, poverty alleviation, fight against HIV/AIDS, improving refugees' education, fostering humanitarian relief issues and disarmament programmes.

Mission:

EAYOPEH helps the Somali community to participate in achieving sustainable peace, promoting human rights, encouraging democracy and good governance through awareness raising, effective reconciliation and creating & promoting the culture of dialogue and poverty alleviation.

GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE:

EAYOPEH headquarters is located in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu. The organisation has various regional representatives in the Hiran region, Galgaduud region, Middle Shabelle region, Lower Shabelle region and the Bay & Bakool regions.

Background:

After having seen many atrocities in the Somali community and seen resentment building in the Somali community, a group of pastoral, professional and business people have come together and decided to make this organization work for their community. In Somalia, there are many challenges. We have started this organization to participate in the reconstruction of our country by any means.

Organizational authorization:

BENADIR regional administration andthe interior ministry of Somalia TF Government both registered EAYOPEH.

Organizational Mandate: 

EAYOPEH has a special mandate. All its members work together transparently through equal rights. Members will pay contribution to cover all the daily needs and future, the members  will include males and female; the election will be held within two year, so every member of EAYOPEH  has right  to eligible  to vote or to be voted  as a chairman.   EAYOPEH should have two council  and common supporters:

A.    Executive committee

B.     Common council

C.     Common supports in the community

These members can be skilled non skilled, majority and minority; members must be Somali nationals.

EAYOPEH will:

  • Focus on all activities of human rights, community development and humanitarian affairs;
  • Analyze social improvement;
  • Assess and record all atrocities (rape, kidnapping, killing, child soldiers) on the ground;
  • Respect or regard all beliefs, nationalities, diversity of Somali people
  • Investigate, monitoring and advocate for humanitarian affairs through consultations with concerned parts
  • Improve social standard of life through the creation of lasting peace at national, regional and district level.
  • Teach youth of value of neighbourhood, the value of self determination and good governance through justice to make community capable to decision making.
