Libyan Crisis Teleconference Outcomes

22 humanitarian organisations from Europe and the Middle East answered our invitation and joined our teleconference meeting on 16th March to discuss the Libyan situation. They shared information and engaged in debate on humanitarian coordination within the area. On the list of participants there were representatives from British Red Cross, DFID, DEC, ICRC, IHH, League of Arab States, OIC, Oxfam, Qatar Charity, Qatar Red Crescent, UN OCHA, IRIN, IICO and World Vision.

The participants agreed there is a need for cooperation and coordination in the region, as there is little information coming from Libya due to communications breakdown. The information that does filter through is worrying, with conflicting reports on the needs on the ground.

In order to ensure information is shared and efforts are coordinated, the participants have agreed to a face-to-face meeting in Cairo on the 24th March, event convened by The Humanitarian Forum.
