Near East Foundation

Mission/Vision:

For 95 years, the Near East Foundation (NEF) has helped the most vulnerable communities in the Middle East and Africa improve their conditions in the face of chronic poverty, conflict, migration and climate change.

What they do:

NEF assists the most vulnerable and marginalized people in the Middle East and Africa to participate more fully in their countries' development-to build the lives they envision for themselves. Through a range of training, technical assistance and material support, NEF promotes three critical facets of community development: knowledge, voice and enterprise. In doing so, we help vulnerable communities life themselves out of poverty by:

  • Providing the education and training necessary to participate fully in civic and economic life
  • Encouraging participation in local government through community organizing and institutional strengthening initiatives
  • Creating economic opportunity by means of enterprise development, micro-credit, and improved agricultural and natural resource management.

Where they work:

Armenia, Egypt, Jordan, Mali, Morocco, OPT, Sudan.
