Organisation profile: Faqih Foundation and Development

Introduction

Faqih Foundation and Development is a non profit and nongovernmental organization. It offers humanitarian and social development programmes to poor communities in Somalia. The organization provides technical, educational and material assistance to poor communities. It was established in 2010 by group of intellectuals.

Motto

"The Messenger peace be upon him - "and God will help His slave so long as he helps his brother".

Background

The Organization was founded to promote the concept of community development. It was established as a response to the instability following the unrest in 1992, which caused the loss of the lives of thousands of civilians.

The unrest also caused many people to flee their homes and become refugees in countries like Malaysia, Kenya and Ethiopia. It then became necessary to establish a strong civil sector in order to mitigate the constant problems facing the poorest parts of the communities.

Projects

1: Education development:  formal education, non formal education, combating illiteracy and child protection.

2: Primary health care and HIV/AIDS, malaria, TB awareness

3: Building mosques and madras for the community

4: Orphans: providing a safe home for the orphaned and abandoned children of Somalia to grow, learn, heal, and build a better life for themselves. There is now a generation of young people that do not remember a life without war.

Vision

Faqih Foundation and Development is inspired by the vision of a strong, vibrant society in which a culture of accountability is firmly entrenched and the rights of every citizen are respected and protected while in turn, citizens acknowledge their responsibilities and endeavour to fulfil these as expected.
