Organisation profile: Green Forest for Peace & Development (GFPD)

Green Forest for Peace & Development (GFPD) has been established in 1994 in Mogadishu by its native women. After so many pit-falls, and people suffering enough in all aspects of life particularly political, social and economical due to the bloody civil war, the scholars from the inhabitants came to understand that it is indispensable to establish a non ethnic, non political and non-profit organization that can help the needy people in various ways to improve their standard of living.

The structure of the organization was established on the grounds of a democratic process of free and fair elections. The organization holds an annual conference attended by all members where all processes take place. Leading authority and executive communities are selected in every three years in free and fair polling in the headquarters, Mogadishu or any other sub-office as stated in the constitution.

Since then the organization has undertaken several social and economical activities extended throughout the regions of Somalia in assisting the needy inhabitants, more specifically in south and central zone.

Green Forest for Peace and Development performs and implements Agriculture,  Emergency shelter, Nutrition, Peace building and reconciliation, employment and income generation projects through labour incentive, Watsan, Good governance and Advocacy, women empowerment, vocational skills training, reproductive health and FGM awareness, Food and NFI distribution,  cash for work, food for work, rehabilitation and construction projects in Somalia.
