Organisation profile: Safety Foundation for Development
Background
Safety Foundation for Development is a non-governmental, non political and not-for-profit organization. It was established in the year 2007 by concerned professionals and traditional elders within the different communities in the region.
This organization was solely established to treat issues such as humanitarian affairs, peace and reconciliation, gender equity, culture and social service, as well as other developmental aspects of humanitarian issues specifically for women and children in the whole region who are suffering.
Safety Foundation has its main office in Nairobi Kenya, with other sub-offices in many parts of the region such as Mogadishu- Somalia.
The NGO is involved in livelihood programs, education, Health, water & sanitation, community mobilization, human rights and peace development.
The Board of Safety foundation is composed of 11 trustees of the professional members including the chair person. The Board nominates a management Team (staff) of 9 persons which executes all projects and programs that comes under the organization.
Objectives
- To work closely with international agencies in accountability by developing mechanisms to facilitate safe working environment.
- To respond and facilitate education programmes in both rural and urban areas.
- To restore family economics through income generating activities such as skill training as a tool to improve and empower their living standards.
- To encourage good community health care system through the prevention and eradication of Traditional harmful practice best known as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
- Provide health centres, water and sanitation as well as awareness rising programs on HIV/AIDS.
- To respond natural disasters as well as other humanitarian needy.
Vision
The vision of the organization is to empower the local community and human activists who promote good governance, livelihood programmes and peace in the region.
Mission
The mission of the organization is to encourage peace, democracy and human rights amongst the different communities in the region. The organization is also credited to work with all segments of the regional society in the sectors of livelihood programs, education, health, water & sanitation through bottom-up awareness building approaches.

- Effective and flexibility to adjust the implementation plans as a result of monitoring evaluation resources.
