Some of the members and partners of The Humanitarian Forum are already on the ground, offering much needed relief.
WFP is considering the airlift of high energy biscuits and highly nutritious supplementary foods - for vulnerable children and pregnant or nursing mothers - into strategic locations in southern Somalia, where they would be distributed to the hungry by international and national non-governmental organisations that are active in areas where the food needs of local populations are greatest. Plans to mobilise supplementary food products for children in response to the Horn of Africa crisis could make this the biggest ever operation to deliver these products that are highly effective in treating malnutrition in the first 1000 days of life. THF's Dr. Hany El-Banna has joined a needs-assessment team visiting the Daadab refugee camp in July.

Muslim Charities Forum has been taking a leading role on empowering the UK Somali Diaspora to respond to the famine. On 6th July MCF chaired a meeting between the Somali Diaspora community and UK Muslim aid agencies to discuss a swift response to the ongoing drought in Eastern Africa. A team has been set up from the Somali NGOs to coordinate the response from within their community, assist in information sharing and create a forum for Somali NGOs in the UK to address this crisis and future emergencies. They have been tasked with creating a matrix for the affected areas in the entire region to help aid agencies coordinate their resources on the ground.
