Situation Update
The unrest and heavy fighting has lead to an escalation in death toll figures, people injured and further displacement. Yemen itself is a host country for refugees from the Horn of Africa. The security situation makes it difficult to assess the exact needs on the ground in Yemen.
According to UN OCHA's 7th June assessment, the needs on the ground range from medical supplies, food items and fuel. Read the assessment and humanitarian snapshot as of 7th June. 30th June snapshot.
Some of the members and partners of The Humanitarian Forum are already on the ground in Yemen, offering much needed relief.
UNHCR were already present on the ground, caring for some existing 200,000 refugees and over 300,000 internally displaced Yemenis. They are working with their partners and local authorities to help just under 1000 IDP families hosted in seven schools in Aden. They are also assessing the situation and providing urgent assistance to the newly displaced people.
UNICEF believes malnutrition is soaring and that there is a risk for a cholera outbreak due to poor sanitation. Read their response here.
