Visit to IDP camps: February 2010

Dr Hany El Banna recently joined HFY director Ahmad Alsharaji and local HFY members on a visit to three different camps for Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Harad. He found that local groups were working enthusiastically and effectively with international partners to bring basic needs, dignity and hope to the camps' residents. The committees running the camps also have representatives from among the IDPs themselves - everyone's voice is heard and messages about needs get through quickly.
This ‘in the field' workshop proved invaluable to the participants and to The Humanitarian Forum. The local HFY members grew in confidence and knowledge and also proved what a vital part of any relief effort local participants are. It was a dynamic, enlivening experience which enabled hands-on learning.
