OECD Responding to Emergencies Manual - 3 part Manual
OCHA Regional Office (ROMENACA) has recently collaborated with the UAE Office for the Coordination of Foreign Aid (OCFA) to publish a three-part manual on Responding to Emergencies in Arabic and English.
The manual provides user-friendly material to be used by aid workers from the Arab region, including information about existing coordination mechanisms, key international aid bodies, assessment criteria, templates and checklists. It is broken down into three volumes, with the Arabic and English text together in each volume:
Part 1: Monitoring, Mobilization and Deployment
Part 2: Conducting Assessments
Part 3: International Response Organizations and Coordination in the Field

Google’s innovative Public Data Explorer features the latest Human Development Index (HDI) figures and direct links to the extensive Human Development Report database of international development statistics. The Public Data Explorer, available online throughout the world in Google Labs, has for the first time incorporated all the key statistical indicators from the Human Development Report, including the HDI, an annual composite national measure of health, education and income introduced in the first Human Development Report 21 years ago.

This Network Paper draws on field experience from more than a dozen Common Needs Assessments (CNAs) to identify the opportunities, costs and trade-offs involved in carrying them out.At their best, common inter-agency, inter-sectoral needs assessments help to develop a better joint understanding of needs, capabilities, and appropriate response. Yet in trying to meet too many objectives, CNAs have sometimes failed to live up to their promise. Carrying out a CNA takes time and resources;even when funds and experienced assessors are available, results have not always been useful or timely.
